Generosity sits at 70 only because the hosted free tier averages against the self-hosted one. Taken alone, an uncapped Community Edition would score near the top of this category.

Feature depth at 58 is the honest counterweight. Formbricks is survey-first, so it is deep on what surveys need and absent on what form builders sell. The catch depends on which Formbricks you pick, and both catches are real.

• The next step up is that same $74. There is no small rung in between.

Self-hosted:

• You run it. A server you pay for, Docker you keep patched, database backups nobody else will take, and an outage that is yours to fix at 2am. We are not going to bury that, because free if you can run Docker is not free to most people.
• Some enterprise modules in the repository carry a separate commercial license, so the codebase is not AGPL-3.0 end to end.

Both versions share one gap: no payments, no e-signatures and no order forms, because this is a survey platform rather than a form builder.

The ladder is short and the first step is tall. Hobby to Pro is a jump of $74 a month, and what that buys in raw volume is 250 responses becoming 2,000. Eight times the allowance for the price of a mid-tier seat only makes sense if you are buying the feature list rather than the counter.

Free with limits, and which limit you meet depends entirely on whether you can run Docker. Self-hosted, there is no cap and this is one of the better free deals in the category. Hosted, 250 responses a month is a taste of the product, and the reason the overall answer is not a flat yes is that most people asking are asking about the hosted plan.

Concretely: a developer running in-app micro-surveys on their own infrastructure can live here indefinitely and never pay. A solo founder validating an idea with a link survey gets through a couple of rounds on Hobby before the counter bites. A product team that wants branding removed and its data in the EU without owning a server is looking at $74 a month from the start.
