If you were self-hosting Formbricks mainly to dodge response caps, Google Forms gets you unlimited responses with none of the upkeep. It is free with any Google account, with unlimited forms and responses, quizzes and automatic Google Sheets export (as of July 2026). It has no in-app survey widgets and no data-residency choice, but for link and email surveys at any volume it never charges.

Tally is the managed, modern option when Formbricks' 250-response cloud cap bites and you would rather not run a server. The free plan has unlimited forms and unlimited submissions under a fair-use ceiling around 50,000 a month (as of July 2026), with logic, calculations, payments and e-signatures free. It is a survey-and-form generalist rather than an in-app-survey specialist, and it is cloud-only, so you give up Formbricks' self-hosting and in-app widgets.

Fillout gives you four times Formbricks' free cloud volume without a server: 1,000 responses a month with unlimited forms and unlimited seats (as of July 2026). It adds the commerce and booking pieces Formbricks skips, including Stripe payments, scheduling and e-signatures, and two-way Airtable and Notion sync. It is not survey-first, so in-app micro-surveys are not its strength.

If you chose Formbricks for open source and self-hosting but need heavier survey methodology, LimeSurvey is the closer fit. Its GPL-2.0 Community Edition self-hosts free with no caps, and it brings quotas, randomization, multi-language surveys and exports to SPSS, R and CSV that Formbricks does not (as of July 2026). The trade is age: the admin interface is dated, and the hosted Cloud free plan allows only 25 responses a month.

HeyForm keeps Formbricks' open-source, self-host ethos but points it at conversational, one-question-at-a-time forms. Self-host the AGPL-3.0 edition with Docker and it is free with your data on your own servers (as of July 2026). The difference from Formbricks is the hosted side: there is no permanent free cloud, only a 7-day trial before $15 a month. It has fewer integrations and templates than the bigger names.

Its free Basic plan is the weak point, capping surveys at 10 questions and 25 viewable responses (as of July 2026), which is tighter than Formbricks' 250, so this is really a paid move for serious research.
