Linear is an issue tracker for product and engineering teams. Everything is fast: creating an issue takes seconds, most actions have a keyboard shortcut, and cycles (sprints), triage, and roadmaps come standard rather than as plugins. It syncs with GitHub, GitLab, Slack, and Figma.
Who Linear fits, and who finds it narrow
- Software teams that find Jira slow and over-configured
- Startups that want opinionated defaults instead of workflow design meetings
- Small teams who can live within 250 issues while they evaluate
Priced to be outgrown: 250 issues, then $10 a user
Linear is freemium. As of July 2026, the free plan includes unlimited members, but only 250 issues, 2 teams, and 10MB file uploads. Basic ($10/user/month billed yearly) removes the issue cap and allows 5 teams; Business ($16/user/month) removes team limits and adds Zendesk and Intercom integrations.
250 issues, one opinion, no self-hosting: the limits
- 250 issues total is a few months of normal use for an active team, not a forever plan
- Little flexibility by design: if you want custom workflows per project, you will fight it
- Built for software work; marketing or operations teams will find it narrow
