Kommodo is a hosted screen recorder aimed squarely at the Loom use case, with one loud difference in its marketing: recording is unlimited and free. No watermark, no five-minute cutoff, no cap on how many videos you keep. It records through a Chrome extension or a desktop app on macOS and Windows, uploads the result, and gives you a link.

The AI layer is what it actually sells. Every recording gets transcribed, and Kommodo generates a summary, action items, and a step-by-step written guide from what it saw on screen. If you record the same onboarding walkthrough every month, that guide is the useful output, not the video.

We could not verify what the paid plans cost. Kommodo does not publish a pricing table, and its own comparison page shows the product at $0 per month against Loom, Descript, Tango, and Scribe. We would rather flag that gap than guess at a number.

Unlimited today: the limits are trust, not quotas

• No published pricing means no way to predict what happens if the free tier changes
• It is a small, unfunded company, so a free plan this wide carries some risk of being narrowed later
• Closed source with no self-hosting option, so your recordings live on their infrastructure
• The editor is lighter than Cap's Studio Mode or Loom's, so heavy post-production still means exporting

The tradeoff is trust. There is no published price list and no self-hosting escape hatch, so you are betting that a small company keeps giving away something its competitors charge for. For low-stakes internal walkthroughs that is a fine bet. For anything you need to still be able to access in three years, keep local copies.
